This course will research, define, and teach educators how to increase their students’ success, both inside and outside of school, by building their vocabulary and understanding of critical words across content areas. Learners will discuss how to choose and teach vocabulary words, which are highly relevant in both academic and social situations, to facilitate student success with the targeted words. An essential skill to be addressed will be discovery of how to use old and new strategies in creating personal toolboxes, and assess useful strategies to integrate vocabulary throughout the curriculum. Learners will focus on how technology can extend vocabulary knowledge, use, and comprehension, as well as provide tools to capture the attention of twenty-first century learners. Educators will learn how to deliver vocabulary instruction in a meaningful and effective way through technology evaluation, student performance monitoring, scaffolding, and modifying instruction to ensure student success.
*Participants in this course will have several mandatory, synchronous, video conference sessions. The dates and times are listed on each course registration page.
