EDU 940 Engaging Readers in All Content Areas
Explores reading strategies across all content areas for grades 4-12, emphasizing data mining to understand reading levels, text selection to address different learning levels, and approaches to teaching reading suitable across all content areas and disciplines.
This course is designed for any grade 4-12 teacher who seeks to improve their knowledge of how to analyze student data to determine reading levels, how to select text to address student needs, and how to effectively incorporate reading strategies across all content areas. Instructional focus will be on modeling best practice research regarding before, during, and after reading strategies to promote student growth and to address common core reading standards and research-based assessment techniques.
This course was previously titled "Reading Pedagogy".

About the Instructors
Dr. Aileen P. Hower is the coordinator of the Eduspire Summer Literacy Institute and teaches reading courses for Penn State York and Cabrini College. In addition to teaching at the college level, she is the K-12 Reading/English/Language Arts/ESL Supervisor at South Western School District.
Joanne Custer began her educational career 20 years ago as an 8th grade and high school ELA teacher and has served as ELA department chairperson. Presently, she is the coordinator of the School-To-Work Program and previously worked as an instructional/literacy coach. She earned her Masters of Literacy Education through Penn State University and is certified as a reading specialist and holds a PA Instructional Coaching Endorsement.
