Coding EDU 923 Coding and Computational Thinking

Eduspire’s courses are offered by Wilson College as individual 3-credit graduate-level courses, and most courses can also be taken as part of the Master of Educational Technology (MET) degree program.

Develop an understanding and application of computational thinking concepts for educators. Evaluates offline grade-level appropriate computational thinking activities for students, presents instructional strategies that foster student perseverance, and investigates the basics of coding author applications. Participants will develop an implementation plan for teaching computational thinking and coding.

Computer programming develops learner skills and knowledge with problem solving, critical thinking, and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) curriculum. Through engaging challenges coding encourages perseverance, work ethic, collaboration, inquiry, and research, as well as supporting tasks found in everyday living. This course will help teachers get started with age appropriate coding activities, tools, and tasks to introduce your students to computational thinking and computer science and connect them to all areas of the common core curriculum.

This is an introductory course and participants do not need a computer programming background. Although a computer with internet access will be needed for teachers to take this course, coding concepts can be taught in classrooms without access to a lot of technology.

This course was previously titled "Computational Thinking and Coding".

A Sphero robot is included in the cost of the Wilson College version of this course (with no additional fees).
